An epic day’s fishing on the Napa River for Wombat Charters
Three good natured and experienced anglers from Missouri on a Napa River guided Striped Bass fishing charter.
This one (in terms of numbers not size) is going to be hard if not impossible for me to ever equal or beat.
SIX Napa River Stripers estimated between 15lbs-20lbs and four ‘lost’ that threw the hook.
Single shank, barbless hooks – and it’s going to stay that way.
No weights or measurements, only estimates as the only thing ‘taken’ was photographs.
Plus there were all the shakers we caught and released but I’m not going to include them in this report. Okay… maybe some additional photos at the end since I already have them.
Seriously folks, the pleasure and privilege on Sunday with these guys was all mine. They pulled their weight and helped out and were fun to be around. And to top it all off they made me look good by catching some quality Stripers. All I had to do was point them in the right direction and leave them to it. This was one of those few instances where it wasn’t up to me to try and get a decent fish in the boat.
If you get bored listening to this next part – I’m not going to apologize… we were casting lures on light spinning tackle in very shallow water.
I could write a book on this trip. There were so many exciting moments but I’ll just have to push it to memory and hope that in years to come I can at least look at the photographs and maybe recall some highlights.
More trips coming up so I’d better get some rest, focus and try and find some fish (of any size) for my next group.
To top it off ALL of the fish were caught (exclusively) using the KastKing Centron 4000, the economy reel of their lineup and KastKing monofilament. It’s not always what you use, sometimes it’s how you use it. If you want to step up a couple of notches from the Centron I highly recommend the Kapstan Elite which is what I use personally when I’m not on charters.
