Charles & Sopheap were visiting the Napa Valley from Tennessee and chose Wombat Charters for their guided Napa River fishing charter.
A late start due to early morning commute traffic and a wrong turn saw them stepping on board as the sun was rising.
When we arrived at the first location I immediately set Charles up on the back deck with a light spinning rod & reel and pointed out the spots he should cast to.
He’s a seasoned angler and has caught a number of decent stripers already back home.
It wasn’t long before Charles got his first hit and after a decent fight we put his first Napa River Striped Bass in the net.
We moved around a bit using the MinnKota, saw a few v-wakes but as soon as the sun came up and the tide slowed and stopped the fish went off the bite.
So it was off to the next spot where we saw a number of big fish cruising in the shallows but the best we could do was to get a couple of short follows before they turned away.
Time to move. Now it was late morning and this was only a half day trip. I’m going to cut it short here and say we fished a number of other spots from Napa Slough to Dutchmen’s Slough and back again. I went a couple of hours over time but I really try hard to find fish for my customers and eventually I did. See below.
